Enlightened Avatars

Dutchie just released a yoga mat with lovely relaxing yoga animations that play out in sequence.  It's a great place to park your avi while you stretch offscreen.  I feel positively enlightened.  The potted plants behind me, from left to right, are from Rustica and Dutchie.

Also, to my great pleasure, I found that PicMonkey has a cool bokeh feature.  I don't usually use PicMonkey for editing because I'm always afraid I'll overdo it!  Slap me if I do, but not this time.  This is exactly how I feel after a good yoga class, sparkly and relaxed.

Drift and Bump

I didn't originally plan to blog this picture.  I changed my mind for a few reasons.
  • First, to prove that I don't always just stand alone on my platform (sometimes I have company).
  • Second, I think the picture captures energy and the essence of a friendship in Second Life and I wanted to share that.  Smooch April!
  • Third, who wouldn't want to look at two hot girlie avatars rather than one?
  • And fourth, Drift is a damn fine store and should be blogged!
April and I are wearing the same thing, Drift's city pants and unrigged mesh bandeau tops.  With the HUDs that came with each, we personalized a bit, and then - BUMP!  On to the dancing!

Mirror's Enigma and coldLogic

I discovered this new-to-me skin maker, Mirror's Enigma, due to my obsession with which skin makers are coming out with SLink appliers for hands and feet.  The Victoria skin is gorgeous and reasonably priced.  One makeup with choice of eyebrows and Lola and Lush appliers is $350L - and discounted from that if you're a group member.  The SLink appliers are extra.  I'm wearing the tan shade which is a bit darker than my usual (it looks lighter in this photo due to the windlight setting I'm using).  I thought it would be a fun change from the paler skins I usually wear, or maybe I just thought I needed a justification to add another skin to my folder.
Requiring no justification whatsoever is the new release from coldLogic.  I'm a big fan of capri pants in the warmer seasons, and the casual button tank top is perfection.

The oh so perfect chair/pose prop is a collaboration between Zigana and Flowey.  I could sit here all day and dream.

Evie's Closet at Fantasy Faire 2013

I'm really glad Fantasy Faire is letting me indulge my inner princess.  This breathtaking dress is from Evie's Closet, a mesh dress with a flexi overskirt, beautifully textured and covered with flowers.  When you purchase this dress in this color, your lindens are donated to Relay for Life for Cancer Research.  Faintasy Faire 2013 winds down on April 28th, so don't delay.  Evie's Closet is located on the Magnificat sim

Breathless (NSFW)

I picked up this delectable pose (you thought I was going to say man, didn't you?) at Pose Fair from oOo Studio.  I waited patiently (not) for Clay to return from his research trip to try it out.  Pose Fair is over, but oOo has the Breathless couple pose in her main store.  Rawrrrrr!  I usually let Ayla take the sexy pictures, but she's away so I figured it was time for a little spice.  Clay thought so, too!

I know I'm not showing much of it, but we took this picture in the gazebo from 22769's offerings at Fantasy Faire.  This is as good a fantasy for the gazebo as any.  Clay is in FATEwear jeans and shirt, and I'm in boots from G Field. (wink)

Why Do I Blog? A Strawberry Singh Meme

It's time again to answer Strawberry Singh's questions for this week's blogger meme.  Now she wants to know why we bloggers do what we do.  This one will require a little thought.
  1. How long have you been blogging?  Since December 2011.
  2. Why did you start blogging?  Ayla and I thought it would be fun.  I doubt either of us would have started by ourselves, but together we gave each other courage.  We both loved taking pictures and posting on Flickr.  Now that Ayla's on hiatus for health reasons, I'm on my own.
  3. How many times a week do you post an entry?  Ideally I wish I had new content daily.  Before I blogged I'd check my favorite bloggers' sites daily and would be so disappointed when there was nothing new.  I would totally burn out if I did that though, so I take a couple of days off from blogging every week.
  4. How many different blogs do you read on a regular basis?  I browse through the Second Life blogs from my blog role on a daily basis.  I like reading my Plurk friends' blog postings and I check out details from pictures I like on Flickr.  Cajsa Lilliehook started a regular posting of her favorite blog posts of the day.  I seek that out to discover new-to-me blogs to read and posts I may have missed. I have no idea how many that is!
  5. Do you comment on other people’s blogs?  I do very rarely, and shame on me.  Because I adore getting feedback on my own blog, I should comment on other blogs to spread that good feeling around.
  6. Do you keep track of how many visitors you have?  Of course I do!  Partly so I know what people like (or at least look at), and partly so I don't feel as though I'm just talking to myself.
  7. Did you ever regret a post that you wrote?  No, although I've regretted a few of the pictures.  What was I thinking?
  8. Do you think your readers have a true sense of who you are based on your blog?  I don't really know.  Probably these memes have given readers the best sense of the person behind the pictures.
  9. Do you blog under your real name?  My real Second Life name.  LOL
  10. Are there topics that you would never blog about?  Oh my, yes.  At the top of that list would be meanness.  There's enough of that in the world without contributing to it.
  11. What is the theme/topic of your blog?  I think it's spelled out pretty nicely in our subheading "a Second Life blog about whatever takes our fancy" It's mostly fashion with a bit of home and garden thrown in.  I have dreams of one day doing a tutorial about something but I know so little about anything!
  12. Do you have more than one blog? If so, why?  No.
  13. What have you found to be the benefits of blogging?  I like the broad connections one can make by blogging.  I've met new people I may never have met otherwise.  And honestly, it's something to do with my picture!
  14. So, why do you continue to blog?  I blog so I can squeal and say to a hundred friends at once, "There's the cutest new release at _____!"  Also so I can take pictures of myself with a swarm of butterflies around my head without anyone thinking I'm crazy.

More Fantasy Faire 2013

Maybe if I'd asked for early access to Fantasy Faire 2013 I could have taken pictures of the sims.  As I didn't, you will have to take my word for it that Fantasy Faire is a visual treat, and you must go see it yourself.  I'll just nudge you toward the items I like - this dress and cape from The Muses, for example, with 100% of the purchase price going to Relay for Life's cancer research.  All I need now is a dragon or two and I'll take over Westeros (you Game of Thrones fans know what I mean).  You can find The Muses with Bilo on the Crimson Fields sim.

I tend to focus on mesh clothing in this blog, and I'm happy to report that there is more mesh this year at Fantasy Faire.  I've noticed that many of the fantasy clothing designers mix system and mesh clothing.  The bra for this outfit is system.  I'm not sure why, and I don't mind.  It doesn't distract at all from the look of the outfit. OOOOH....maybe it's so I can flash the girls!

The vine arbor in the background of this picture is from Botanical and can be found at the Liaison Collaborative's Garden event.

Bilo at Fantasy Faire 2013

I'm ready for a little fantasy - and to support Relay for Life's cancer research fund raising.  I can do both at Fantasy Faire 2013, which opens today at 6:00 a.m., Second Life time.  I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at Bilo's Fantasy Faire mesh offerings like this elegantly textured dress.  You can find Bilo at the Crimson Fields sim, one of eight sims in this year's fair.

Now What?

I got a kick out of this crossroads sign from We're Closed, a fairly new-to-me store for mesh furniture, buildings and landscaping items.  I've got that "now what?" sort of feeling lately, and the sign really spoke to me.  When I discovered it had single and couple animations I knew I had to have it.

I hadn't dressed for a fashion post, so forgive me.  I'm wearing jeans and a top from Maitreya, Truth hair and my standard SLink hands and feet.

Sometimes Tears Are All I Have

This picture is therapy, I guess.  I just couldn't move forward after hearing about the Boston bombings until I grieved for those poor people who lost lives or limbs or innocence.  I'll pull myself together when I've shed a few more tears.  My thoughts, prayers and tears are for Boston.

What's in a Name? A Strawberry Singh Meme

I get excited about Mondays now for just one reason.  Strawberry Singh publishes her meme blog.  It has been a lot of fun to participate, and I love reading what everyone has to say.  Today's meme is about our Second Life names.
  1. What’s your SL name? Dolly Baroque
  2. What made you choose this name? At the time I was thinking of my avatar as a doll as opposed to an extension of me, and Dolly seemed to be a quite obvious first name.  I scrolled through last names and settled quickly on Baroque because I had gone to a music conservatory in real life. Although I'm more of a Mozart gal, I sang a lot of Handel so Baroque worked for me.
  3. What’s your SL nickname, or what do most people call you? (if applicable) Not many people call me anything but Dolly.  Doll and Dollykins are some affectionate nicknames, and Doolally when Ayla wants to call me crazy.
  4. What’s your SL display name? Why do you choose to have one? (if applicable) I've never changed Dolly's display name.  I like that we can though, for roleplay reasons or SL marriages.
  5. Do you like your SL name? I loved my name since the first person who said hello to me laughed and broke out into song.  Sing it, Louis!
  6. If you could change your SL name, what would it be? ummmm... I guess since I haven't changed my display name I wouldn't.
  7. What’s the craziest/funniest SL name you’ve ever seen? I never remember.  I just snicker and forget.
  8. What’s the coolest (your favorite) SL name you’ve ever seen? Dyss Gruntled, a hysterically funny roleplayer who totally lived up to his name.

Three New coldLogic Dresses

coldLogic just released three styles of Spring dresses in a myriad of colors and patterns.  The first dress is sweetly casual, perfect to wear over that bikini.  The back of the dress is practically nonexistent, barely covering the hips, turning sweet into sexy as soon as you turn around.
The second dress has a halter top and a plunging neckline.  It's a classy dress for dinner with a first date when you really want to impress.  It comes in several color combinations and the belt can be swapped for contrasting color.
The third dress I'd call girl next door goes clubbing.  It has a cute print and puffy sleeves, and yet it shows plenty of legs and cleavage.  I couldn't choose between these dresses, and neither should you. Get them all.

I'm Casual Today

I love a party dress or club look as much as the next woman, but sometimes I just want to be casual.  Fashionably Dead has some great mix or match casual pieces at April's Collabor88.  What can be more casual than your shirt only half tucked and worn cut-off jean shorts?

Now we've updated our SLink hands and feet (you have, haven't you?).  If you've been wondering whether you also need to update your SLink Margot ballet slippers (they're made to fit over our SLink feet), you really should (or buy them for the first time).  The updated slippers have a hud that gives us the option of ribbons around the ankles or no ribbons, making these slippers a very versatile shoe.  I took two close up pictures of the shoes to illustrate.  These are raw shots.  Look how seamless my Adam N Eve appliers are!

Something Old, Something New

I love this pay phone from 22769's Bauwerk Furniture.  It has built in animations to lean against, sit on or under.  I thought it would be fun to show the old and new technologies together and used Adorkable's Call Me pose complete with cell phone prop.  It also helped me show off goodies from Pure Poison and the wonderfully customizable PXL Creations skin, Sophia.  Sophia comes with lots of options in eye makeup, brows, cleavage, lipsticks and freckles.

Dolly's 10 SL Firsts Meme

Oh that Strawberry Singh is a nosy parker with her Monday memes!  I love that phrase, nosy parker.  It's so old fashioned, something my grandmother would say.  What she'd say if she ever discovered Second Life, I can't imagine.  It's so easy to be a nosy parker just by following these memes.  On to the agonizing Q and A (agonizing to write mine, quite fun to read everyone elses)!

  1. First SL Friend: There were two, and I don't remember who was first.  Arana Boa who still pops in occasionally, and Malloc Rau who has left SL but not my heart.
  2. First SL Kiss: Oh god, who can remember?
  3. First SLex time/place/partner: I'm going to go with the first one who wasn't simply an experiment in poseball hopping, and that would be with Malloc.  I'd need his help in remembering where.  He was always sentimental about stuff like that and kept the landmarks.
  4. First SL Partner/Girlfriend/Boyfriend/Wife/Husband: The Malloc theme continues.  We really hit it off right away.  I knew he was a keeper when he went home to help out his mom (in RL) when she had surgery.  He kept in touch with me in SL through a dial up modem for a week.  We learned so many things about Second Life together.  I introduced him to prim hair, for example (which he never changed again, ever - men).  After a year of being together we partnered with a ring (which I always forgot to wear which probably annoyed him).  We stayed partnered until RL got too busy for him and he left SL.  He did pop onto SL during this past Christmas holiday to catch up a bit. I so wanted to take him shopping and update his avatar, but he always hated shopping.  We had a nice chat and I showed him mesh trees.
  5. First SL Job: ummmm... like for pay?  LOL  SL is a total money pit for me.  Even though I had a store for awhile it was more of a hobby than a money making venture.  I think I covered my monthly expenditures 10% of the time.
  6. First SL Creation: This one makes me laugh.  I bought a cute little log cabin about my second month in SL.  It had a front porch and needed a step from the ground to the porch.  I had no concept of building things, and neither did Malloc.  A simple rectangular prim would have done the trick, but I shopped for one.  I finally learned a little about building from Ayla's RL husband and then some more from Malloc (who was a natural once we learned how to set down a prim).  To be honest, though, I can't recall what my first build was.  I do recall one of the early builds was deco style pub chair of which I was quite proud at the time.
  7. First Encounter with a Linden:  I met Guy Linden when he was trying to tidy up those little pieces of abandoned mainland.  He sold me everything that abutted my property and showed me the new sims for premium members before they went live.  I still haven't claimed one.  I gave him one of my builds and the whole meeting was very nice.  I do wish Lindens interacted with us residents more.
  8. First Encounter with a SLebrity:  I'm not sure I know any because I'm not clear on what makes someone a SLebrity.  Every subgroup in SL has its rockstars I think.  Maybe it was when I met Van Auster of Post.  We were on the same sim for my first Home & Garden Relay for Life Expo.  I was already a huge fan of his work, and he said something positive about my work that made me weak in the knees.  Then there's Sylva Petrov, who makes all those naughty animations for Sylva's Animation Factory.  We used to roleplay together occasionally, and she even named a naughty animation for me, inspired by roleplay (I'm not telling which one.  Figure it out).  I'd definitely count Strawberry Singh if we'd ever actually met face to face in SL, but we haven't.  I'd better invite her over to tea.
  9. First SL Sim you fell in love with: Aside from the little piece of mainland that I owned for a long time, Claiming Beauty sim was the first I fell in love with.  It was a well designed and attractive medieval immersive roleplay sim (for the time, anyway).  It has changed hands and name since then, but I still live in that digital spot.
  10. First SL Blog Post:  Here is my first solo post HERE.  It wasn't so long ago.  I think my photography has improved since then, but it did make it to Cajsa Lilliehook's What I Like column which was very kind of her and gratifying to me.
This meme came up just as April Collabor88 started.  My early faves are clearly the Tee*fy sweater and the PXL Creations skin.

A Tease in a Corset

I went to League today to see if she had released the skin applier for my SLink hands.  It wasn't there yet, but I did find this sexy new mesh corset and skirt.  The corset has a hud to add studs and change the sleeves.  I had to have it.  The texturing at League has always been amazing, and I'm happy to see that continue in the move to mesh.

Back to my current obsession with SLink hands (and feet).  Though the League hand appliers aren't out yet, Izzie's are.  I also picked up a nail polish applier from Izzie's.  Fabulous!

Perfect Match

I love that Siddean Munro is always thinking about how to make things better in Second Life.  I've already said that my favorite thing in my inventory is my SLink hands, and now they're even better.  My SLink feet are a close second, and they're better, too.  Siddean is collaborating with skin designers to make appliers (like the Lola tango appliers) for our SLink hands and feet!  No more tinting.  We don't even need the blender layers anymore!  More information is available on the SLink website.

If you already have your SLink mesh feet and hands just go to SLink's redelivery terminal and get the updates.  I got my hands immediately, but my feet weren't on my redelivery purchase list for some reason.  No problem, though.  I sent a note card to Siddean and she promptly took care of it.

As of the second day of release there are three skin makers who have appliers available - Adam N Eve, Tuli, and Izzie's.  I understand League and Pink Fuel will be releasing their appliers very soon.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for my other favorite skin designers to quickly join in.  Hint, hint Belleza, Glam Affair, and PXL Creations! [UPDATE: PXL Creations has released feet appliers and the hands are coming.  YAY!!!]

Mermaids' Song

April and I became mermaids yesterday.  She has a real thing for mermaids (and mermen, I suspect).  So when I told her that Celoe and Lelutka had combined to make a line of mermaid - umm - outfits?  accessories? tails? Whatever.  When I told her about Erare, the new mermaid fantasy store, she was ready to shop.  Turns out she had made gorgeous mermaid poses for her store, Alterior Motions, so I snapped a quick pic.  April added a tattoo layer to her mermaid and I put on my EMO-tions hair instead of the hair that comes with the mermaid.  Now all we need is a sailor or two.

Funny aside.  This morning I couldn't log into SL due to rolling restarts and I complained on Plurk.  The beautiful Sylvia Olivier suggested I type Sargasso into my destination box.  I did and arrived in an underwater sim in full mermaid regalia!  So I took another pic.

Dolly's Second Life Pet Peeves Meme

Oh dear.  Strawberry Singh posted another meme and I don't want to be a chicken and not do this one.  It's about Second Life pet peeves, obviously.  We've all got them.  Some share them with the world at the drop of a hat.  Others (read that me) seldom share peeves because our mothers told us "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

Well, sorry Mom.  I'll be nice again tomorrow.  Here are a few of the things that make me want to slap these cuffs on Second Lifers:

GESTURES - I hate them.  I hate the noise, I hate the screen spam.  Occasionally between friends it can be fun, I admit.  But don't talk to me in gestures and expect me to carry on my side of the conversation.

ASKING ME HOW OLD I AM - I'm old enough not to want to answer that question.  I may give a person a pass once.  Ask me again and he's just an asshole (and it's always men who ask).

ONE SIDED ROLEPLAY - Yeah, yeah.  Her Master told her to call all women Mistress and to refer to herself in the third person.  But unless I'm in a roleplay sim where it makes sense it annoys me that she does.  Of course, she might like the handcuffs.

GOING TO CROWDED EVENTS IN LAG INDUCING OUTFITS - I'm not looking at avatars and judging their sense of style at shopping events.  Firestorm has a wonderfully handy derender feature, but Firestorm lags me and I'm usually on V3 (or is it 4?), and I haven't figured out how to derender avatars in it.  Multiple avatars with rendering costs over 100,000 each is laggy to many of us.  Be thoughtful.

Whew.  I'm stopping here before I slap the cuffs on myself for my intolerance.  Peeves are idiosyncratic bugs and not usually deal breakers.  If you do those things it doesn't mean I won't like you (unless you do all of them - what a nightmare).

On to styling credits.  I got these sunglasses from Pure Poison just the other day and thought, "I'll never be able to put together a look that includes these!"  Now that I've paired them with the Danger pose from Ploom (free at Pose Fair), I love them!

Doesn't this pose say everything you need to know about how I feel about rain?

I must like rain really, because I got three different sets of umbrella poses at Pose Fair, all from Exposeur.  The well made mesh umbrellas are sold separately by HANDverk, but the display is handy next to the poses.
