Welcome Back Clay

You know what's exciting?  Clay is back - sort of.  He wasn't truly gone, but his internet connection was too weak for Second Life this summer.  So we talked, but I haven't SEEN him until now.  Welcome back, dear.  I'm taking you shopping soon. 

I throw my hands up with crediting Clay's look because he's probably been in several of my pics wearing the exact same thing - Dura hair, Belleza skin, a nice mesh jacket I sent him AGES ago, and who the hell knows what else.  I showed him a preview of this post and he said, " I'm like a Simpsons character, wearing the same thing all the time." I know, right? 

Mon Tissu is having a photo contest for a new blogger, and I may put my hat in the ring because I LOVE Mon Tissu, and win or lose, it'll give me an excuse to shop. ;-)

There are some pretty skin releases recently, so I tried two lovely skins from makers I've never worn before.  I settled on Belleza's Shyla because it fit my shape slightly better, and the lips were so luscious!  I bought the fatpack which has 15 different makeups, tattoo and undershirt layer cleavage, blonde and red eyebrow tattoo layers (I'm wearing the red), three hairbases, and nine lipstick tattoo layers.  I'm really impressed with this skin.  I would prefer the option to wear a skin with red eyebrows instead of adding a tattoo layer, but that's a little thing.

I've been busy in real life, Ayla's been ill - but recovering, thank goodness.  So our blogging has been a little sparse in the past week compared to our usual output.  Thank goodness for the 52 Weeks of Color Challenge which gives me a weekly focus to resume my blogging. This week's color, feldgrau, was not as easy as I thought it would be.  I still can't decide whether my pants from Deco or the scooter pose prop from oOo better represents this color.  You decide!

I miss you!

I nipped on this morning to catch Fifty Linden Friday, I didn't want to miss two weeks in a row!  When I saw the message props from Flowey I knew I had to sneak in a blog because I DO MISS YOU ALL!

Are You Registered to Vote?

This post is going to be a little real life serious.  It's about voting.  I'm not trying to be controversial, I just want to urge everyone in the United States to register to vote, and then to VOTE for (or against) the candidates and issues presented to you.  Low voter turnout, which is way too common in this country, skews our country into something we may not much like.  It's easy to get registered.  The organization Rock the Vote is doing a great job reaching out to new voters. Go to their website HERE to register.  Don't wait.  November will be here before you know it.

One of my Plurk friends asked about voter education tools that are non-partisan.  I thought that was an excellent question.  Factcheck.org is a good and free website to help you sort through the truth, hyperbole and outright lies that fly around during an election season.  The League of Women Voters is a well established non-partisan organization that has been educating voters since 1920, the year that half of the US population (women) won the right to vote.  A well informed electorate is a powerful thing.

Dolly Does Laundry!

Remember me crowing about how August Collabor88 is all about me because the theme for the month is called Baroque?  Here's the clincher - the Dolly Laundry Room from LISP Bazaar.  How does a washer and dryer fit into the theme of Baroque? Why just name it after Dolly!*

See the pink shoes covered in roses?  They are a brand new release from SLink to fit on her new medium height bare feet.  Go to Vintage Fair, pick up SLink's vintage 2-strap pumps which come with the feet.  That way you'll save some lindens, because after Vintage Fair the feet will be sold separately.  Once you have the feet, both styles of shoes fit over them and there will be more to come!

*I really have no idea why the talented builder, Pandora Popstar, named her washer and dryer set Dolly, but in the spirit of fun I'm claiming it!

Casually Classic

Mon Tissu designs are always lovely to me, the styles are feminine and casually classic.  I bought several new hairs to wear with this flowing dress and settled on a couple of the newer Lelutka styles for this blog post.  There's great news about the skin I'm wearing in the second picture - a special makeup version of Glam Affair's Cassiopea skin.  It's available at a big discount for the next week or two at The Dressing Room.   My final touches are a bracelet from Mandala in the first picture, and earrings and a bracelet from Maxi Gossamer in the second picture.  I try to grab every new release from both of those jewelry makers!

52 Weeks of Color Challenge - Tyrian Purple by Dolly

In the color challenge I always cringe a bit when a purple hue comes up, but you know what? I'm starting to embrace that mix of red and blue.  I really liked this shade, at least with the pale skin I'm wearing today.  I'm not sure where this purple fear comes from!  I'm also loving having my own little castle in the sky thanks to Trompe DeLoeil.  Pick it up at this month's Collabor88, it's gorgeous.

August Collabor88 Goes for Baroque!

Yes, Collabor88's theme for August is Baroque, and what do you know! I'm Baroque.  Isn't that the very definition of Dolly Baroque?  So Collabor88 is all about me.  Thank goodness I have the feathery bit of poofery to hide the big head.  Maybe it's just a coincidence, but there is a washer and dryer set named Dolly that I promise I'll blog soon.  Uh huh.... I love you too Collabor88 and happy birthday!  I've loved having Collabor88 to look forward to every month for the past year.

You're in for a treat this month at Collabor88.  Can you believe it's been a year since the event began?  To celebrate they have the place stacked with vendors from all our favourite stores.  The theme this month is Baroque, much to Miss Dolly's delight.  There is even an item called Dolly. Sometimes Vintage is Timeless - Jackie by Purple Moon

Purple Moon Creations is one of Vintage Fair's sponsors, and she has a wonderful affinity for vintage clothing.  Her new release blows me away.  I'm hard pressed to date this lovingly detailed Chanel inspired outfit to an era - it's timeless.  I'm going to go with the early 60's, though.  I can almost see Jackie Kennedy wearing something like this on the campaign trail in 1960 (it doesn't hurt that the outfit is named Jackie, too).  The pose in this top picture is by another of Vintage Fair's sponsors, oOo, from her elegant Rouge collection.

In other Vintage Fair news, SLink has done it again.  Siddean has come up with a wonderful solution to all those pesky tinting of feet for every new pair of shoes you buy.  First she introduced sandals, ballet slippers and flip flops (she says thongs) for her rigged mesh bare feet.  And now she's expanded the idea for heels as well.  Tint the tippy-toe looking bare feet once, then just change shoes at will.  Brilliant!  This pair of shoes is the first of what I hope are many styles to slip on these new pretty feet of mine.  They're only at Vintage Fair, and while Vintage Fair is open, the shoes come with the medium sized feet.  After that they'll be sold separately.  Aren't they darling?

The 80's is VINTAGE?

Sigh.  Apparently it is and I'm taking a walk down memory lane.  An actor was elected president and I had a cotton knit jersey dress from the Limited (remember the Limited? It was HUGE in the Midwest during the early 80's) that looked just like this one from Lily Bird for Vintage Fair.  Hair was big, jewelry was plastic, neon yellow, green, pink, orange and teal were cool to wear all at once together.  The headband - well, that's in case I had time to "Fonda" later.  Oh look!  I aerobicized!

I know, I'm really showing my age (hangs her head and cries for the 80's).  I'd still wear that dress.

Vintage Fair Opening Tomorrow, August 4th

Vintage Fair starts tomorrow, so this is my last teaser post, I promise.  Here's a peek at Ingenue's new dress that comes in a variety of colors and patterns.  It's pretty and feminine, very 50's without looking like it belongs in a museum - you wouldn't hesitate to wear it as you bop around the grid.  The pose is from oOo, a sponsor of the event, who has fabulous single and couple poses with spot-on vintage feels.

Bounce This Poses at Fluid

Another rotation at Fluid starts today and here I am in bad girl mode, using poses and the gun prop from Bounce This Poses who are showcased this time around.  I loved the chance to blog something a little different from my usual style. There are 4 different poses to use with the gun.

Fluid is a recurring bi-weekly, themed event in Second Life directed to those of us who love poses, animations, props and furniture; creators and consumers alike.  Fluid will showcase the talents of 12 pose, animation, prop and furniture makers during the course of these two weeks.
