Just a Girl in a Coffee Shop

In Second Life I can have horns, wings, branches growing out of my heard, and so many other oddball things, and yet, 99.9% of the time I choose to stay close to real life (with a better ass).  Dolly is an extension of the real life me, not an alternative.  Oh, I have a penguin avatar and I can get all happy feet in it and bring tears to my eyes laughing.  But dress Dolly in jeans and a sweater, plop her down in a coffee house, and I'm just as happy as long as I have a cup in real life.

This is all my way of rationalizing yet another pair of blue jeans, this pair by Fashionably Dead and new at Collabor88.  DOLLY NEEDED them to sit in coffee shops!  And by the way - I started with the Wasabi Pills hair this time in my styling - one of several newly added hairs to my inventory for my birthday thanks to Ayla and April.

Last Night Got a Little Wild

I Come Bearing Gifts

Christmas is drawing closer and I went running around the neighbourhood delivering presents.  I got to the last house and there was no answer for a while and I thought Friar must still be angry with me after I accidentally reversed an elephants arse into his doorway, where it left a smelly deposit.  But that was ages ago, surely he has some festive spirit in him. Suddenly I heard a deep, grizzly voice saying "Wadda ye want?" He didn't sound at all happy and he scared the blinking bejeezus out of me so I dropped the presents on the doorstep and ran for the hills, my heart about thudding out of my chest. Maybe the Hai Karate aftershave will cheer him up, if that doesn't do the trick then he's bound to be happy with hand knitted jumper with a cheery face of Santa on it. 

This Adam & Eve skin is super gorgeous. It comes with different makeups and a few extra layers such as freckles and hair bases. I'm not one for much make-up real life or Second Life and this Bare skin was just perfect for me.

I also couldn't resist Leagues new release, the Faux Fur Pea Coat. You get three, one full colour and two with gradient shading at the bottom. They are gorgeous and snugly, just right for our winter wardrobes.

We've Been Good This Year (mostly)

It's the one-year anniversary of Double Exposure, the collaborative blog of Dolly Baroque and Ayla Qinan.  How better to celebrate than to wear the same outfits (on purpose for once) and pose together using oOo's fabulous friends poses.  It's a wonder we have hair in these pics, we suffered so, keeping everything rezzed and gridline free.  Lots of blogs do interviews so on our first anniversary we thought we'd interview each other.  We do have the right not to answer and to ask for a lawyer if necessary.

Dolly:  So Ayla, what surprised you most about becoming a blogger?

Ayla:  What really surprised me was how bad my photography skills were when I look back to the start of our blog. I thought I was quite good but jeezo, how wrong was I? I think every blogger improves with time though, as they discover new tricks and find their own style. I think we have both improved immensely, and I love that we have our own unique styles but blend beautifully, making the blog consistent.

Ayla:  Dolly, what do you enjoy most about blogging?

Dolly:  It varies with my mood.  Sometimes I love putting an outfit together just so, and showing it off with a pic.  Other times it's about delivering on a challenge, like the 52 Weeks of Color Challenge.  Sometimes it's all about a pose that inspires me, or a new SL photography technique that I want to try.  I'm like the furthest thing from an expert with photo editing, but I kind of like messing around and trying things in GIMP.  I enjoy writing, but for blog posts I think the photos are the story, so I focus on them and keep the writing to a minimum.  And last but far from least, I'm very gratified when anyone tells me they like one of my blog posts.

Dolly:  Do you have a favorite blogger, Ayla? Other than us, of course.

Ayla:  I read the feeds and see many fantastic bloggers but there is one blog I subscribed to because of its quirky nature and its kookie cute style. I always look forward to getting the e-mail from Not Quite Pink because I know there is going to be something blogged that I need and Magenta DeVinna makes me smile.

Ayla:  How about you, Dolly? Who's your favorite blogger?

Dolly:   I'm predictable in that I never fail to read top fashion blogs like Strawberry Singh and Gogo's Juicybomb.  I like seeing what they post, how they put looks together, and I really like how their photos have a consistent style - each in her own way.  Neva Crystall's posts in How Neva Sees It make my jaw drop.  I wish I had 1/10th of the talent she displays in every carefully constructed picture.  And again, she's consistent in her style which to me is a blogger/photographer strength - and one that I lack.  I can dream though.

Dolly: What's your favorite type of thing to blog?  And what's the blog post you're most proud of and why?

Ayla:  Hmm, I do love my more risque posts. I like to show my sultry, seductive side with maybe a little hint of naughty. The blog I am most proud of has to be Wistful.  It's not spectaular, I'm no editing wizard, but I love the softness and the peacefulness of it. Also, it's the blog post that earned me most hits ever!

Dolly:  Oh, that pic for the Wistful post was gorgeous.  I loved it.  But really, what's with the naked pics?  Are you some sort of perv? (wink, wink)

Ayla:  Yes, yes I am.  The fact that naked pics get the most hits gives me a pervy little thrill.  And we both know you're a perv, too. You're just more embarrassed about it.

Dolly:  What? Me a perv? (cough, cough) Time to change the subject.  Would you prefer a less bossy blogging partner?

Ayla:  No, I just ignore you when you get bossy, like you are being right now about this blog post!!

Ayla:  OK, this is probably the most important question of all.  What drives you crazy about me?

Dolly and I popped over to The Dressing Room and the Dressing Room Blue yesterday to see what bargains we could snap up.  I filled my boots and here I am wearing a chunky woolen sweater from TDR. I'm dimly aware of a push on Plurk to highlight pose makers and poses this week in blogs, and that's a wonderful notion.  This pose and mirror prop is from Estetica, a relatively new (to me) pose maker, who clearly understands how to breathe life into an avatar.  And no - Dolly has no wrinkles, but her typist has a few!

I bless the rains down in Africa

I've not been able to blog all week and I've a lot of catching up to do, especially for the Around The World Event that began on the 15th and the Gallery Gift Shop which started it's new round for this month.

The Lynette outfit from 22769 at TGGS, is a boho/hippie flavored combination comprising of flared pants and a blouse. I love the rich earthy colours, the top shows off ample midriff and the flowing pants are lush!

The hair is available at Around The world, it's from Amacci and I have changed from my usual brunette to a shade that would blend with the rest of my outfit. I just hope Dolly doesn't go in a huff with me for going red again!

Love You!

There's a man in Second Life who gets me.  He appreciates the fuss over my hair, he doesn't roll his eyes when I change my hairstyle 10,000 times a week.  I got mesh ears and he knew I'd need new hair to show them off, so he made some.

 
We don't communicate much.  I pay him money, he sends me hair - gorgeous hair.  Every once in awhile he gives one of my Flickr photos a pink star which gives me a bigger thrill than I like to admit.


He recently named a hair Dolly - for me?  Probably not, but I bought it and am blogging it here along with another new favorite, Cyanne!

Autumn Haze

I've been feeling a bit lacklustre with my blogging this past week. Sometimes it all just gets a bit bleh and no matter how many outfits I try on, no matter where I go on the grid for inspiration, it just doesn't come. I plurked my lack of motivation yesterday and Geanna Lanley suggested that I went for a wander around Chrystal Dunes which is temporarily open to the public (it closes today). It's absolutely beautiful and it really didn't take me long to find the right spot to snap a pic or two. I wish it didn't have to close because it's a wonderful source of inspiration!

Now on to the clothes bit. The jacket I have on is a group gift from Paradisis. Isn't it adorable? I layered it up with a Jane long sleeved top. City Nights

The main highlight of this picture was intended to show off the new Wasabi Pills Amelie style, new for FaMeshed which reopens on the 1st of November. I love everything about it. The hairband is just adorable and of course as with all Wasabi Pills accessories, colour change.  The rest is a mishmash of clothes from my inventory. 52 Weeks of Color Challenge - Charcoal by Dolly

I checked.  The color really is called charcoal this week.  My love affair with the store coldLogic will never end, I don't think.  This top and skirt work beautifully together.  Of course, my heart can easily be stolen by a new hair from Truth.  I am loving the new faded textures, especially the pumpkin pie ones. 

I've got a sniffly cold in RL, but in Second Life I can croon with the best thanks to this darling pose prop from Estetica.  Karaoke, anyone?

The Costume Ball Approaches

The Costume Ball, brought to you by the Ego Co, opens it's doors tomorrow, the 24th of October, at 12pm SLT.  As the name suggests the items will all be tailored around a dark but tasteful theme that captures the festivities of Halloween which draws chillingly close.

The first few items I am highlighting were designed as if they were made for each other. I'm wearing the Happy Undead - Black Widow Dress. This dress can be worn as shown, but the corset and collar can be worn as separate items, which comes in handy for mixing and matching.

The amazing hair is Medusa from [HANDverk]. It comes in 8 different colours including black, green, pink and orange and you can chose different eye colours for the snakes too. It really is so squirmy and wonderful looking!

The skin that I put on to finish the look is Izzie's - Fuyu Skin. It comes with 8 different lipsticks, blush and even the shape to go with, although I never used it in my pictures.

Call Me, Maybe?

This dress is another stunning creation from our friends at 22769 Casual Couture and it's available at the Fair event which started on 20th October and runs 15th November.  I love the colour, the pattern, the detailed folds and creases and it hugs my figure perfectly! Nice one boys!

This is the first time I have used projectors in my pictures. It comes in very handy for indoor shots when shadows are impossible to get unless you aren't completely closed in. Very nifty I must say!

Don't Blink

This picture kind of gives me the creeps and it wasn't intentional. That statue back there reminds me of the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who and I have my back turned! I'm gonna turn around and have this big nasty thing bearing it's teeth at me in a minute. Even in real life, statues give me the heebiejeebies. I'm out of here!

Not really, well at least not until I talk about what I'm wearing. G Field has always been a favourite of mine and this is a new release, the Classic Dress "Vivian" in bordeaux. I matched it up with my new boots from Gos which I fatpacked last week, the colours are awesome but I went with black to tie in with the dresses trim, but the burgundy looked good as well.

Okay, I'm really off now before something bad happens to my new clothes!
